SEPTEMBER 2009 - Lots of Farm Happenings!!!
Not only is everything lovely and ripe for harvest on the farm but we have plenty of exciting news! Last month we were visited by Kevin Frankish from "Breakfast Television" !!! He navigated the maze with Steve & Lisa Cooper and Tamara Stimpson and it was broadcast on their show ~ for those of you who haven't seen it, the link is: http://site.bttoronto.ca/video/
Also we have received LFP Certification! For those of you who aren't familiar with "Local Food Plus", they are a non-profit organization who connect farmers and consumers together and ensure that the food the farmers are producing and providing to the consumer is local, environmentally and socially responsible. For more information regarding LFP please check out their website at : www.localfoodplus.ca
Now on to farm news....
With the fantastic weather we've been experiencing, the crops are doing really well!! They're late but plentiful; in fact we now have so many ripe strawberries, potatoes and tomatoes that we're offering
u-pick. This is new to the farm and a great way to involve the family in what we do and to really feel connected to the land and your food production (as well as getting bushels and basketfuls of our fabulous produce!) If you are interested in digging potatoes, please ensure that you bring your own shovel or fork - we provide you with the bushel baskets!
Our family medical issues seem to be on the up side and we thank you all for your kind support. Unfortunately one of the Mexicans who work for us, Florencio, had to quickly go back home on an emergency as his wife and children were robbed and threatened to turn over his pay which he receives from his work on the farm. It is when we are faced with these horrifying stories and accounts that we are thankful we live in a country like Canada where we can earn a living and not anticipate our families and our bank accounts to be threatened. Our thoughts are with Florencio as he hopefully rectifies this difficult situation.
As we move into the fall season we would like to remind you of all the amazing farm activities that are available ~ the corn maze is really busy and is already being booked by youth groups, for corporate teambuilding activities, and for birthday parties! Come and have a wagon ride/farm tour with Steve so you can see the fields and what produce you can anticipate in your upcoming shares!
WINTER SHARES:
We are offering our winter meat share again this year, as well as a monthly vegetable share and winter egg share!!! Check out the CSA page on this site and click on the links to learn more about these amazing programs!!
Things are getting busy and there's lots to do on the farm so come on out and have fun!!!
BTW...you can now find our new Tourism sign on Highway 404 and on Vivian Road!!
